Cold Pack (Ice Pack) therapy involves applying a cold pack — crushed ice, gel pack, or cold compress — wrapped in a cloth to the injured or inflamed area. The cold reduces local blood flow (vasoconstriction), decreases tissue metabolism, reduces oedema (swelling), and provides analgesic (pain-relieving) effects. It is the first-line treatment (RICE — Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) for acute sports injuries, sprains, strains, and post-operative swelling.
